Picture the scene. Dawn, January 1st 2030. The blackening sky shows no signs of clearing. The streets are quiet, covered in a thick layer of grey sooty snow that has carpeted the UK since mid December. The temperature has been sub zero for weeks on end and will likely remain so until the coming of spring. On the other side of the world Asia and Australia have been
Cast your mind back if you can to the early days of the new decade. January 2020 to be precise. Depending on your political outlook, you would of either still been riding high following Boris Johnson ‘s landslide victory or alternatively, in a state of abject despair thinking about how you can possibly contemplate surviving five more long years of Tory misrule. What very few people were focusing on at the time, were early reports coming in about a novel corona virus taking hold in Wuhan. Things were about to get pretty crazy.
Fast forward 6 months. We are living in very different times. Covid-19 has taken hold and thrown most standard business models out of the window. If companies haven’ t already thrown in the towel, they are looking desperately around to see how they can survive in this new environment. Many have had to ramp up learning and embrace technology and
A visual, easy to follow indoor exercise infographic design, that could in certain circumstances be literally life saving.
It ‘s a sad fact but globally over 70% of patients admitted to hospital into ICU testing positive with Covid-19 are living with obesity. Along with age, obesity is a big determining factor in whether patients survive or unfortunately succumb to the disease. It came then, as some urgency that EASO The European Association for the Study of Obesity asked us to produce an ‘ easy to do at home ‘ indoor exercise infographic design for their members. Something that could be followed simply during lockdown. Many people living with obesity will likely be in the vulnerable section of society and will likely need to be shielding in isolation.
As well as keeping a healthy mental balance, it’ s vitally important to remain active. The exercises we illustrated are relatively simple but could be challenging for the elderly or for those of a high body mass index (BMI). Therefore, the plans are guided, explaining how to begin with perhaps just a 10
Back in the good old days of early March 2020, I bumped into a fellow parent on the school run, I ‘d recently helped his partner Gloria out with a logo design for her crochet business and after chatting for a bit he gave me a couple of hand-made face masks that she’ d recently started making. They looked really stylish with pleats and little buttons sewed on for decoration. At the time I wasn ‘t entirely convinced how a loose fitting cotton mask was going to be much use against a microbe. Government advise at the time was to sing happy birthday while washing your hands vigorously and then make preparation to become infected in order to add to the communal ‘ herd immunity ‘.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and with things changing rapidly and looking bleaker by the day, I came across one of those videos doing the rounds on social media https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZtEX2-n2Hc explaining how the Czech Republic has approached the pandemic by making it compulsory to wear masks outside the home which seemed to be slowing the spread. It was then that the penny dropped. Wearing a home-made mask isn’ t going to protect you so much from the virus but everyone else – in case you ‘ve picked it up and are going about your business blissfully unaware spluttering out the pox. It might also go some way to explaining the footage in China at the beginning of the outbreak showing police coming down hard on members of the public out and about not wearing a mask. They weren’ t concerned for the well being
