A picture is worth a thousand words, they say and while that maybe true, making sure that picture conveys the essential message contained in those thousand words, is the task Lunatrix Design undertake when we produce an infographic design. Increasingly, over the last few years, we’ve been asked to ‘simplify’ quite challenging concepts and procedures and put them into a set of graphics that explain and educate at the same time.
One of the main instigators in the rise in popularity of infographics is of course social media. Capturing peoples attention on facebook or instagram is a difficult task at the best of times – a visually arresting graphic can very often be the bait to hook in readers, who might then read the full article or blog post that might otherwise have been ignored. What’s more, subtle branding of infographics with company colours or logos can reinforce the idea of a particular company as a leading exponent in their particular field. If a graphic is liked and reposted on social media as well then there’s no limit to the amount of positive feedback that can be returned over time.
One of the things we’ve seen work effectively is an infographic with about 6 or 7 key facts joined together, which can then be drip fed to social media as individual stand alone graphics and linking back to the main infographic design hosted on the company website.
